The Tilton Single Disc Non-M Ultra-Lite Clutch/Flywheel Kit for your 5-speed-equipped BMW replaces the heavy 36.6-pound stock parts with a 13.6-pound assembly, dropping a full 23 pounds from the rotating assembly! Â That’s both reduced overall weight for the car and weight that the engine no longer has to spin up to accelerate. As a result, you’ll have less driveline loss and more power to the wheels, as well as faster shift times. That means more time under power and higher straight speeds for quicker lap times.
This system was designed by Tilton in conjunction with BimmerWorld to meet the demands of the typical track enthusiast and club racer in a moderately powered E46 or E36. Torque capacity is rated at 335 lb-ft to cover Spec E46 cars as well as many S54-powered cars; headroom is built in to this number, but we don’t recommend using this unit with engines exceeding this specification.
The single disc Tilton Cerametallic clutch disc is supplied on a rally-pack disc (0.234″ thickness new versus 0.106″ traditional thickness) for a much-improved service life.  The new Cerametallic disc offering is intended for track use only, and in that application has superior smooth engagement characteristics to reduce disc fracture tendency (but it is not intended to be slipped, and slipping the clutch for smooth engagement in paddock or trailer loading situations will greatly reduce lifespan).  The 184mm (7.25″) clutch diameter adds to ease of use while carefully selected materials and processing methods result in a clutch that not only handles abuse, but can be modulated with more ease than other full metallic clutches on the market. The steel flywheel allows a thinner starter ring so weight is more centralized, further reducing moment of inertia (a scant 163.4 lb-in2) for even quicker-revving performance.
Recommended for full race/track cars, but suitable for light street use if you don’t mind very track-focused manners. Fits E46-, E36-, Z4-, and Z3-based engines with 5-speed transmissions only.
Kit includes flywheel, clutch, annular throw-out bearing, and hardware. Torx T-60 required for installation (non-standard socket). You will also need a clutch alignment tool, which can be purchased here.
