The Morehead Speed Works E36 & E46 Rear Shock-Mount Reinforcements (RSRs) are designed to help spread the load of the rear shocks into the chassis. The BMW unibodies are infamously thin and with hard use can lead to torn sheetmetal. Our RSRs are designed to help spread the load over a wider surface area and prevent the shock mount from pulling away from the body. The steel plate of the reinforcement has “fingers” that are made to be hammered over to follow the contour of the rear shock towers, then welded into place. These fingers are laser cut and designed to allow for easier installation.
Installation by a professional is recommended and requires welding with the associated prep and post work.
The MSW RSRs can also be used as a basis for tying into your cage or for a rear shock reinforcement bar connecting the two together.

The MSW RSR’s are installed on the inside of your car. All interior plastic, carpet, and sound insulation need to be removed from the trunk area first. You must also have your rear shocks removed and any wiring safely pulled out of the way.
- Mark the area on the rear shock mounting area where the reinforcements will be installed.
- Clean all paint, seam sealer, etc away from the area using a wire wheel or other appropriate means
- Clean the surface of both the plates and chassis with Acetone, ensure no surface rust is present. You may choose to use a weld-through primer at this point.
- Using a pair of bolts and nuts, position the reinforcement in place.
- Stitch weld around the perimeter of the main plate.
- Hammer the “finger” tabs down so that they conform to the contour of the chassis.
- Weld the tabs into place.
- Clean up any weld spatter, burnt paint, etc.
- Paint / Rustproof area, do not forget to do the same from the wheel well side as well.
- Reinstall your rear shocks.
