Save when bundling the MSW Enhanced Engine and Transmission Mounts together.
The MSW Enhanced Engine Mounts (EEM) were developed using years of experience in racing E36, E46, and E9X cars. We’ve found that solid mounts (to include stiff polyurethane, UHMW, and Delrin) have far more drawbacks than benefits. Overtime we’ve switched to rubber mounts from different suppliers. While better than solid mounts, we were always finding small issues that weren’t addressed in existing designs. This led us to design our very own engine mounts that met all our requirements for a proper performance engine mount without the negative effects of a solid mount.
Our mounts are made locally here in the USA. Machined from solid billet aluminum and utilize NBR rubber that holds up against the high heat. The rubber insert is offered in two different durometers suited for Performance Street or Race applications.
Features:
- Achieves stock height with included 5mm aluminum spacer
- Lower drivetrain height by removing the 5mm spacer (Spec E46 legal)
- NBR rubber insert better suited for high temperatures found near headers
- 2 options for stiffness: Street (43A) or Race (68A)
- Rebuild kits available for end-user servicing
- Completely captive design retains all of the safety functionality of stock mounts
- High quality Nylon lock nuts
- Solid steel thread-in alignment pin
- Compatible with all shifters, including Kinematic Speed, CAE, IRP, RTD, Samsonas, etc.
Why don’t we recommend solid engine or transmission mounts? The engine and transmission as designed by BMW were never intended to be a stressed member. Their design and materials are simply not up to handling the loads imparted on them by chassis deflection and by hard impacts. No two chassis are exactly the same, you are putting stresses on the relatively weak cast aluminum components by forcing an engine and transmission to conform to solid mounts. Sure you can shim the mounts to get the alignment closer, but this still doesn’t account for the chassis twisting and flexing under load on track. And hopefully you never have an impact or a hard off, as this almost always leads to broken engine mounting arms, cracked transmission mount ears, or worse.
We’ve seen solid mounts ruin a race or an entire race weekend time and time again. We have yet to have a mechanical failure related to engine and transmission mount since switching over to stiff rubber mounts.
Note on NVH: Our street model mounts will slightly increase Noise/Vibration/Harshness over stock liquid filled mounts, but are much more “streetable” than nearly all other performance mounts.
Paired with our Enhanced Transmission Mounts.
Made from NBR rubber, with a straight cylindrical shape. There is no through-bolt or external cup, which are a poor design and lead to unwanted stresses and NVH.
A 5mm thick aluminum spacer is included for both mounts. Keep this spacer in place to achieve stock height or remove for reduced height (5mm is max allowed in Spec E46).
NOTE: These do not have the small indentation for the alignment pin found on the cast aluminum OE transmission crossmembers. This alignment pin is unnecessary, and can simply be ground flush. An even better solution is to upgrade to AAF’s heavy duty transmission crossmember, which does not have this small pin.
