Heavy duty E46 front sway bar reinforcement kit from MSW. The front sway bar (anti-roll bar) mounts on the E46 chassis are an often overlooked weak point. Don’t let yours fail by not reinforcing them.

MSW’s Take: We’ve been reinforcing the front anti-roll bar mounts on E46s for a long time, ever since our first race car had a catastrophic mount failure at the track. We decided to offer the same type of reinforcement to everyone in an easy to install plate kit.
The front sway bar mount on the E46 chassis is very weak, and the chances of failure become exponentially greater when you combine stiff anti-roll bars and rough racing conditions. The factory 8mm studs will rip from the frame horns if they are not reinforced properly. The reinforcements included with some bars (such as Hotchkis) do not do a proper job of actually reinforcing this critical area.
This sway bar reinforcement plate kit is precision cut from 1/8″ carbon steel using a water jet. Holes for water drainage were placed in the plate in the same location as BMW designed.
Requires welding, professional installation recommended.

Applications: All E46 and E85/86 Z4 models
- Lift car and place on jack stands.
- Remove front sway bar from it’s chassis side mounts (it can be left hanging from the end links out of the way.)
- Thoroughly clean around the mating surface where the plates will rest. It needs to be clean, bare metal around the perimeter of the plate. Also clean the plates of any surface rust or oil.
- Orient the plates so that the two drainage holes align with the existing holes in the frame horns (they are asymmetrical)
- Hold the reinforcement plate in place with the nuts removed earlier
- Weld the plate into place around the perimeter of the plate.
- Allow the metal to cool and paint.
- Reinstall sway bar using factory torque specs.
NOTE: For original studs that have already pulled out, you can simply weld in 4 new 8mm (or even upgrade to 10mm bolts) from the backside of the reinforcement plate. While this typically isn’t necessary on undamaged studs, some may wish to upgrade for an even more bulletproof mounting solution.
