Just like the standard CAN 5 to 7 pin 712 patch cable, but with the addition of a 3.5mm female audio jack. We have had good success with the small stereo Sony and Panasonic microphones, especially when you add a wind blocking foam cover.
The external jack has enough length to allow you to relocate your external microphone out of direct wind.
You can also use the jack to feed audio from any source, such as your intercom or radio setup.
As for microphones, we’ve had good success with the Olympus ME-51S and Sony ECM-DS70P. Both can be found on Amazon. Be careful with your purchase, as there are a lot of counterfeit versions out there. Whichever you choose, we also recommend a “dead cat” wind noise blocker. Playing around with your microphone location can also make a big difference in sound quality.
See the video below for an example of the audio using this cable and an Olympus stereo microphone with foam wind blockers.
